That’s why usually on such substances which are derived from medical waste, there’s a possibility of having virus & toxin in them. To beware the people from a bio hazard its internationally recognized symbol is used. That is called biohazard sign or biohazard symbol which is a figure of three circles emerging in each other. That is an internationally recognized sign and when this sign appears on something it means that the chemical or biological substance which is there must be treated carefully and it is potentially harmful to human health and to animal health as well.

Bio hazardous materials are assigned different levels by United Nations for their transportation from one place to another. These sings are quite important and when they appear on something it means the biological agent is holding a threat to human health or animal health as well. There are four basic divisions of such substances on which biohazard signs can appear. It may appear on a substance which is infectious and dangerous for human health, it may appear on a substance which is dangerous for animals, it may be a clinical specimen which is dangerous for health, or it may be a medical waste which can cause some infection.

These levels are basically 4 categories of biological agent which is transported from one place to another and potentially dangerous. The level 1 is having the minimum threat while the level 4 is having the maximum risk involved. When these biohazard symbols appear on something it might be from level 1 to level 4 as defined by UN. It is worth noting that the maximum risk which in involved in handling the level 4 of the biohazard is those infection and diseases which are fatal and no treatment is available for such disease. For example dengue fever, Marburg virus, and Lassa fever etc.

If someone is treating such level of biohazard then most important thing is the personal safety. In treating this level of biohazard is considered incumbent to have oxygen supply for these people and usage of Hazmat dress is necessary to avoid any serious accident.
