Thermometers

All of us are aware of the usage of thermometers of different types for measuring the temperature. But there are a few people who know that what the meaning of thermometer is and how does this name come into being. In fact, thermometer is a device that can measure the temperature or other things related to temperature. Its name is basically a combination of two Greek words i.e. thermo which means ‘heat’ and meter which means ‘measurement’.

There are different types of thermometer which are used nowadays for different purposes. Sometimes are more accurate than others. Now due to latest developments in the field of science of technology many improvements have been made in the existing thermometer designs. Even now laser thermometer is also used which is convenient in use and it can measure the temperature of the body from a distance. Another type of thermometer which is commonly used is the mercury thermometer, this kind of thermometer works in the same manner as the water thermometer does but mercury is used that’s why it should be handled with due care.

A basal thermometer is a type thermometer which is used to measure the base body temperature because of its effectiveness. In fact, our base body temperature is not affected from the surroundings as our other body temperatures do. That’s why; it is the most accurate temperature which is taken from our body.

Another type of thermometer is there which is also used to measure the temperature but using the ear drum and it measure the temperature of the body from a distance, it is observed that the ear thermometer is not very accurate as compared to the other types of thermometers.
